Veshtanam (or belly binding) in Ayurveda, is an ancient practice performed following birth to provide stability and grounding qualities to pacify excess vata present in the abdomen.
Vata dosha (air and space elements) is entirely vitiated following the birth of a bubba. When we apply pressure or 'bind' the abdomen, we are directly applying firmness to counteract the expansive space element, and provide stability to the mobile nature of Vata.
Wrapping the abdomen firmly in restrictive cloth also assists with postpartum healing and rejuvenation of the reproductive tissues and abdominal muscles and connective tissue.
These organic, natural belly wraps are 17 metres long and scented with lavender.
